The APD/avalanche photo diode (3G InGaAs pulse APD diode pins for OTDR) is a p-n junction photodetector made of silicon or germanium.By applying a reverse bias voltage to the p-n junction,the incident light photons will strike the electrons in order to push them through a junction,thus achieving photoelectric current flows.When the applied reverse voltage increases,an avalanche current flow will occur.The avalanche effect of the current carrier is then used to amplify the photoelectric signal in the detection system in order to improve detector sensitivity. 
This photo diode series features a small dark current, low operating voltage, and high sensitivity.It can operate in the pulse output mode or DC output mode, and is often used in OTDR systems and detection equipment for Raman backscattering systems.

The photoreceiver module FT-RV2022(A) is a single ended front-end with a high gain of typically 500 V/W and a bandwidth of 33 GHz. The photoreceiver module FT-RV2022(A) contains a waveguide-integrated PIN-photodiode (PD) and a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) with limiting output buffer. An integrated feedback loop optimizes the performance in the frequency and/or time domain with respect to different optical input power. Due to the limiting output buffer the output voltage swing is limited to approx. 400 msV. Incorporated blocking capacitors enable AC output coupling.

The balanced photodetector consists of two 50 GHz waveguide-integrated photodiodes on one single chip. An integrated 50Ω termination allows excellent matching with the electrical output signal. The FT-1310-5I-xxx is an MOCVD grown InAlGaAs ridge laser diode with emission wave-length of 1310 nm and standard continuous light output of 5mW per facet. These lasers provide stable, single transverse mode oscillation.  These are hermetically sealed devices with an integrated monitor photodiode to monitor the optical output. The TO-56 laser can is mounted inside a metal coaxial package which is then pigtailed with a singlemode fiber and terminated with a fiber connector. The pigtail comes in a choice of 50cm or 100cm lengths as standard, terminated with either FC or SC connectors with an APC or UPC polish. Suitable as a light source for data-com and telecom applications with data rates up to 5 Gb/s.

The photodetector is designed to exhibit an optimized frequency response in both power and phase. It is ideally suited for OC-768/STM-256 long haul systems. The high power capability of up to 10 dBm allows for use of optical amplification at the detector input, and results in a high output voltage swing of up to 1V avoiding the need for electrical amplification. The photodetector is optimized for dual operations at 1310 nm and 1550 nm.

A waveguide integrated pin diode provides an excellent linearity, high responsivity and a superior flatness of the RF response. An integrated biasing guarantees a highly reliable component.
